CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:
Next Steps (5 to 8 y/o and 9 to 12 y/o)
This is class is tailored toward youth dancers with prior dance experience or who have completed one of our introductory class sessions at the Shoreline Spartan Recreation Center or Lynnwood Recreation Center and are ready to continue on from the fundamentals! Working on new styles, movements, and energies every week this class will help your dancer build confidence, understand self expression, and build community amongst their peers through experiences in class and optional performances at our 2 annual recitals "The Endemic" and "The Epidemic".
Next Step Adult Hip Hop (13+ y/o)
High energy and FUN! This slow to medium-paced hip-hop class offers an extensive selection of music and movement that challenges the dancer’s musicality, rhythm, retention, and creativity while executing movements and promoting growth.
Breakdancing
Learn the fundamentals of one of the original forms of Hip Hop Dance from up-rocks, down-rocks, Power Moves, and Freezes! This class will teach you everything you need to know to develop your own personal style while also incorporating group collaboration creating combos, battling, and more. In addition strength and conditioning will be a large aspect as more physicality and muscle awareness will be needed as your skills develop in class!
Ballet
Ballet is a concert dance form that highly emphasizes technical, specific, fluid movements. Class will include barre work and center work. Students will learn fundamental dance techniques, posture, and alignment.
Contemporary
Contemporary dance is a genre of dance performance that incorporates aspects of classical, modern, and jazz styles into one inclusive form. While still rooted in its more traditional counterparts, contemporary dance continues to evolve and challenge tradition. Many pieces may attempt to personify more abstract concepts like moods and emotions versus straight storytelling. During class, warm-ups will start from the floor, as well as from standing. Then move to center work such as various forms of steps, turns, jumps, floor work, and learning choreography.
